It’s Back to School for the After School Youth Club
The Neighborhood House’s After School Youth Club returns every Monday thru Thursday afternoon beginning on September 8th. For over two decades, the “Youth Club” has served as a drop-in recreational offering for MDES students. The intention is to provide a safe and supervised spot for kids to “hang out” after school.
Soccer Season Kick-off
The 2025 Youth Soccer season is getting underway soon for players in grades 1-5. The registration form for all players is available here, or stop by our main office to pick up a hard copy. Games will be Saturday mornings at the MDES fields (schedule available soon).
Cookout with the Cops
On Sunday, September 7th we’re proud to be teaming up with our friends at the Mt. Desert Police Association for our second annual End of Summer Cookout. The entire island community is invited to come enjoy lunch at the Northeast Harbor Marina starting at 11:30am. We’ll have plenty of hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, along with chips and dessert— all for free! There might even be a few surprises. As the busy summer season winds down, this is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbors. Make plans to join us!
Board Holds Annual Meeting
On the evening of August 13, the Board of Directors of The Neighborhood House gathered for their annual summer meeting. Generously hosted by former Board member Grett Scott and his wife Terri, it once again turned out to be an idyllic evening. The attendees were all familiar with one and other thanks to dozens of Board and committee meetings throughout the year, mostly of the online variety.
VIDEO: Crow Family Band
We welcomed the incredibly entertaining Crow Family Band to town on Friday, August 8 for a special outdoor show at the Northeast Harbor Marina. Children from around the island gathered and were soon clapping their hands and tapping their toes to the beat. You can find out more about The Crow Family Band here: https://esthercrow.com/home
Video: 2025 Bike Parade & Ice Cream Social
The 25th Annual Bike Parade & Ice Cream Social was held on Wednesday, August 6. It was a perfect evening to gather and the turnout was large. Special thanks to our volunteer “scoopers” as well as to the Mt. Desert Fire Department and Bar Harbor & Mt. Desert Police Department for helping us make it look “official.”
Crow Family Band to Rock the Marina
We are thrilled to welcome back the fun and amazingly talented Crow Family Band to Northeast Harbor. We’ll be doing so with a special FREE all-ages outdoor show on Friday, August 8. The kings of “kindie-rock” will perform at 10:30 outdoors at the Northeast Harbor marina. Feel free to bring a blanket or lawn chairs if you’d like, and definitely don’t forget your dancing shoes! Kids will love the energetic tunes and upbeat tunes, and parents will find themselves tapping their toes and clapping along as well.
Bike Parade Celebrates 25 Years
It started out as a silly and fun excuse to gather in a celebration of summer and enjoy an ice cream sundae. Somehow along the way, this annual get-together turned into one of the most iconic and anticipated events of the entire year. This year’s “Bike Parade & Ice Cream Social” is set for Wednesday, August 6th and will mark 25 years of this unique gathering. Since the start, there have been three basic components to the event.
Photos FRom the Bash at the Boatyard
We had an amazing time on July 10th at the Annual Bash at the Boatyard. The gathering serves as a fundraiser to help support the year ‘round slate of programs and events at The Neighborhood House.
Frogtown Puppeteers to Perform July 15th
The Neighborhood House and Northeast Harbor Library serve as cornerstones of our community the whole year round. To celebrate that important relationship, the two organizations hold a joint celebration each summer, often with performance of some kind. This year, we are thrilled to be welcoming the tremendously talented and wildly creative Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers for a performance of “The Legend of the Banana Kid.”
Bash at the Boatyard
The “Bash at the Boatyard” summer FUNdraiser for The Neighborhood House is scheduled for Thursday, July 10 at 6:00pm. Held at Abel’s Yacht Yard along Somes Sound, all proceeds from the evening go to support the year ‘round slate of programs, events and activities at The Neighborhood House.
Memorial Day Cookout Set for May 26
On Memorial Day The Neighborhood House will be hosting its annual “Community Cookout.” The day will begin with a parade at 10:30am. The parade starts at Mt. Desert Elementary School, works its way to Main Street and wraps up at the Harbor. Following the parade there will be Memorial Day ceremonies organized by the American Legion. When the ceremonies conclude, we’ll fire up the grills and everyone is invited to join us for lunch.
